I initially booked a Momo ring class as a surprise gift for his partner’s anniversary, hoping to eventually have the ring set with stones and used as an engagement ring due to its sentimental value.

After discussing, we decided to craft the ring in platinum—a sturdier, more durable material perfect for daily wear and ideal for transforming into an engagement ring later.

In an exciting twist, during his collection appointment, I decided to turn the ring into an engagement piece immediately, requesting to source for a transparent stone that radiates mellow beauty – a rose cut diamond.

Rose cut is an antique cut style that dates back to the 16th century. Featuring a flat base with a dome top, featuring triangular facets that resembles the petals of a rose. Unlike modern cut diamonds, designed to maximize brilliance through depth and light reflections, rose cut diamonds have a softer, more subtle sparkle. Much appreciated for their vintage charm.

Returning as fiancé and fiancée

Fast forward a few months, and we were thrilled to have I & Y join us again to craft their wedding bands together! Both preferred a more subtle tone, so they chose 18K Champagne Gold. This creates a color-blocking effect for Y, allowing her to stack both rings without them appearing too chunky.

Moments captured during the workshop session —

The couple quickly decided on their engravings, choosing to inscribe each other’s names and their wedding date into the rings they would wear for a lifetime. After that, they got to work bending gold by hand, engaging in a little teamwork to bring their rings to life.

During the session it was filled with soft gazes, smiles and little jokes such as “omg you went through these to make my engagement ring? where’s the jio!”

The end product was a pair of 18K Champagne Gold Bands in 2.5mm and 4.0mm with a minimal polished finish and side textures to embody the gentle nature of the duo.

A heartfelt thank you to I & Y for allowing us to be part of your incredible journey from the proposal ring to the wedding ring creation. We wish you a lifetime filled with happiness and joy, from all of us at KOBO. 💍✨

Here, a glimpse into I & Y’s process as they reflect on their ring-making experience –

What inspired you to create the engagement ring yourself?

While searching for a ring, I wanted to find a way to increase the value of the ring beyond it’s price tag alone. I felt that having a hand in making it would be a good way to do so.

What was your (Y’s) initial reaction upon discovering that I made the ring himself?

Surprised! It was not something that was discussed at all beforehand as Y’s preference was for a simple ring that was not too pricey. Y liked the ring more than she though she would and learning that it was made by I made it even more special.

What were the most memorable moments during the workshop session together?

Engraving was a tricky process with added pressure because we each had to engrave the other’s ring. Glad it turned out well!

Do you have any advice for others who are interested in crafting their own wedding rings?

We highly recommend it, especially for couples who like Kobo’s minimalist aesthetic and who want to have a hand in making their own ring under the guidance of very passionate instructors.
