A Daughter's Ode to Her Parents' Love

Anniversaries are a popular reason for couples to book a ring-making class with Kobo Jewellery. For M’s case, she decided to craft a pair of couple rings as a gift for her parents’ 30th anniversary.
To commemorate their anniversary in October, M scheduled her visits to Kobo in July and August, using her savings from her part-time job to ensure that rings would be ready on time. It was evident how much love and care she had put into planning this gift.
During her first visit in July, she shared with us that her parents hadn’t worn rings for almost a decade—her mother lost hers while they were moving houses, and her father had to cut his open after it got stuck during a work meeting. This inspired her to create custom rings for them. Rather than buying ready-made ones, crafting them from scratch allowed her to create a special memory and added significance to the rings for the whole family.

Using a selection of engraving stamps and stone-setting options to personalise the rings, M engraved their wedding date — 22.10.94 with carefully selected emojis that reflected her parents’ individual personalities and special memories they’ve shared as a family.
“For my mom, who loves flora and fauna,”
Flowers and animals emoji were chosen reflecting her love for nature and the sun engraving symbolises her mom’s sunny, happy-go-lucky personality, always full of warmth.
“For my dad, who loves photography and is a big eater,”
A sparkle emoji was chosen to represent a camera flash and food emojis were chosen to reflect his love for food.
In addition, a Mount Fuji and sakura petal was engraved as a tribute of their first family trip to Japan when M was a toddler.
An emerald was added to her mom’s ring as a special finishing touch to honor their shared birthday month.
M’s words for someone looking to customize a ring as a special gift,
“Personalisation is definitely a great way for expressing that you’re thinking of them: engravings, birthstones etc. I also recommend exploring options and browsing through designs to get inspiration.
Timeline is also important. Custom rings can take time to create, so plan ahead, especially if you have a specific occasion in mind. In my case, setting an emerald took about 6 weeks as the stone setting was done in Japan.”
M’s sincerity and thoughtfulness in creating such a meaningful and personal gift for her parents left a lasting impression on us. We would like to extend our warmest wishes to her parents on their anniversary!
